Architecture of flight operations IT systems

An audit of the existing IT landscape: which systems are in use, where data is duplicated, which links are missing and what can sensibly be changed.

What we do

We analyse the whole IT landscape of the flight operations department: which systems are in use, who works with them and at which step, where the same data is entered twice, where the exchange happens by hand, and which integration links are missing.

We identify separately the data that already exists and is never used further down the process.

We examine how functions are distributed between systems: what can sensibly be merged, and what on the contrary has to be separated.

For every source we establish its owner, its update cadence and how the processes behave when it is unavailable.

How we work

  1. Data
  2. Analysis
  3. Findings
  4. Recommendations

Form of the result

From you: access to flight operations specialists for interviews, a list of the systems in use and, where possible, a description of the exchanges between them.

Result: a report with a map of the landscape, a register of gaps and duplications, proposals for the order of changes and an estimate of the effort involved.

Acceptance: a joint presentation to the head of flight operations and the IT director, since a significant part of the problems arises on the boundary between those two areas of responsibility.

Where the landscape is closed: the analysis proceeds from documents and interviews. The report then marks separately what is confirmed by documentation and what rests on interviews.

What the airline gets

The airline receives a map of its IT landscape with the gaps marked: places of manual entry, duplicated data, loss of information and errors arising at the joins.

An order of changes follows: what integration can fix, where a change of process is required, and where replacing a system is justified.
